NMMU 2nd Avenue Campus -Situated approximately 5kms from the Main Campus, 2nd Avenue is ideally placed across from PE’s premier tourist attractions.

NMMU Missionvale Campus - is located about 25km from the main campus and accommodates some 2000 students.

NMMU South Campus - Offering 830 hectares of protected fauna & flora, this campus gives new meaning to student life and a real cultural experience.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

It’s a unique situation we find ourselves in at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). We’re connected to the natural environment - located in a nature reserve and on the edge of a Bay with magnificent beaches and rich marine resources. The Bay guarantees a quality of life second to none while providing us with a gateway to the world. We’re connected to the history of South Africa, named as we are after one of the icons of the struggle for freedom and democracy and located in a region which was the cradle of that struggle. We’re connected to to a city, Nelson Mandela Bay, which is home to some one million people who work in manufacturing industries specializing in motor vehicle assembly and agricultural processing, tourism and the services sector. Some of these industries are local subsidiaries of multi-national companies and part of our mandate is to provide highly skilled people to work in the local economy. We’re also increasingly connected to the national economy, especially through the significant infrastructure investment which is being made through initiatives like the Coega Industrial Development Zone and Deepwater Port as catalysts for economic growth. We are also increasingly connected to the world, with more than 10% of our student body drawn from diverse backgrounds outside South Africa. Yet, Port Elizabeth, now incorporated into Nelson Mandela Bay, has all the amenities of a city but the friendly warmth and connectedness of a much smaller town, especially around the village precinct of our main campuses in Summer strand. But with those connections come serious responsibilities. Our highest priority is to promote academic excellence through a varied curricula, the standard of teaching throughout all faculties, and innovative and applied research for social and economic development. Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) opened on 1 January 2005, following the merger of the University of Port Elizabeth, PE Technikon, and the campus of Vista University. The merger united the best traditions of the academy and the technikon into one university that offers the full spectrum of career-focused, academic-orientated and professional programmes - from diploma through to doctoral level. We’re proud of the manner in which we serve the local and regional economies, and our graduates are also being found further a field. That’s why we are a “New Generation University”. NMMU is the biggest tertiary institution in the Eastern Cape Province, with some 20 000 students enrolled on seven different campuses - five in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) and two in the beautiful city of George. Academic programmes are offered in seven faculties: Arts Business & Economic Sciences Education Engineering, the Built Environment & Information Technology Health Sciences Law Science.
